Autumn in the Forest Preserves, Part 2

Through the Reeds

Looking Closer...A Blue Heron

Yes, Sandra and I spotted a great blue heron in the water near the shoreline. We watched for several moments and then it bobbed its head into the water.

Bobbing For?

Zoomed

Its quick strike was true, as we could see something in its bill. Likely the heron had snared from the water a fish, which it quickly swallowed.

It was amazing to get a such a good view, so we stood and watched. The bird seemingly posed in the water for us while its reflection shimmered on the surface.

Wading

After several minutes, I moved closer to a slightly different vantage point.

Suddenly to the Air

Suddenly the heron flew off and I quickly tried to snap photographs of its flight. Despite the blur from having the exposure set too long, I think some of the moment's essence shows in the images as the heron crossed the water.

Beyond the Trees

Out of the camera sight, another heron joined the one I had been photographing, as the two travelled to their destination.

Worth remembering.
