Opening Passage
After the Giant City Nature Trail, we hit a new location, the Indian Creek Nature Trail, a shorter trail which winds and cuts across a stream. Crossing the water, I stopped to catch an image of one of my favorite insects.
Perched
Yes, a dragonfly...
Narrowing the Scene
Eye to Eye
Notes about the trail say that it provides "glimpses of a mature floodplain forest". I can say that the area was teeming with life. Trees and bushes were sporting their full early summer greenness. Some plants were gearing up to perpetuate life.
For Another Cycle
It was also clear that the wildlife was enjoying the moment. Little black flying insects, which only later did we figure out what they were, hovered above the trail. Many leaves showed lots of little holes in them; obviously, something thought that they were tasty.
Here's a view looking up into the green canopy:
To the Green
The hike was a bit of a sticky way too. Unseen filaments bridged across the trail. Whoever was leading, whether it was I or Sandra, had to break through the delicate threads designed to snare far smaller prey.
Looking for Lunch?
Setting the Sights on a Spider
Yes, lots of spiders were out and about on the June day.
Another Set of Eyes
About halfway through the hike, we reached another sandstone bluff. Some believe that Indians and others have used these overhanging bluffs for shelter. The darkened patches on the surfaces does seem to suggest that fires have been lit in the sheltering rock.
