The Avengers Hit Cleveland

On Sunday, while in Cleveland, we walked to East 9th Street where crews were preparing the area for shots for the movie The Avengers.

As you might have noticed from the street sign and the poster, the scene that the crews were preparing to shoot is supposed to be set in New York. Obviously, it's cheaper to make Cleveland be New York than it is to actually film in the Big Apple.

This type of "switcheroo" is fairly common in the film industry. At least with The Avengers, they changed the street signs. I watched a chase in Transformers: Dark of the Moon which was supposedly set on an expressway in the Washington area. Viewing the numbers on the signs, I knew that the scene was filmed on an interstate near Chicago.

Whether true or not, the set still makes me curious to see how the scene in "New York", aka Cleveland, will appear in the movie.
